ANNOUNCE A SUCCESSFUL EARTH DAY EVERY DAY 2008 EVENT!

UBUD’S PLAYGROUND AND ARTS CENTRE  UPDATE

MAY 2008

Earth Day has become a regular and successful community event  here in Ubud.  The third Earth Day took place on April 19 in Pengosekan and was attended by hundreds of  local expats, Balinese and tourists.  Earth Day is held to bring the  community together, raise awareness of global environmental issues  and introduce the concept of a permanent community playground, arts  centre and meeting space for humanitarian and environmental  organizations.  The event provides a venue for local environmental  and community groups to showcase their efforts and also seeks to raise funds  and invite volunteers for the playground/arts centre.  The large  number of children in attendance underscored the fact that this community does  indeed need a safe and stimulating playground.

The event took place on a  lovely 1.6 hectare piece of land on the edge of Ubud. With several  buildings and a swimming pool already in place, it would make a perfect site for the proposed project.  Negotiations are now underway with the owners  who are interested in entering a contract with us.  A lengthy search for  government or donated land for the project has not been successful, and we  must enter a commercial contract.  Investors are now invited to join us as we embark on Phase II of this exciting  project. We have raised Rp 88,000,000 to put towards the playground.  Ibu Asri Kerthyasa and Ibu Robin Lim have offered to be project monitors.  Pak Frank Wilson will  provide accounting support.

Dozens of parents, artists and businesses contributed to the success of  Earth Day 2008.

Heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers who made this  event possible:
