ANNOUNCE A SUCCESSFUL EARTH DAY EVERY DAY 2008 EVENT!

UBUD’S PLAYGROUND AND ARTS CENTRE  UPDATE

MAY 2008

Earth Day has become a regular and successful community event  here in Ubud.  The third Earth Day took place on April 19 in Pengosekan and was attended by hundreds of  local expats, Balinese and tourists.  Earth Day is held to bring the  community together, raise awareness of global environmental issues  and introduce the concept of a permanent community playground, arts  centre and meeting space for humanitarian and environmental  organizations.  The event provides a venue for local environmental  and community groups to showcase their efforts and also seeks to raise funds  and invite volunteers for the playground/arts centre.  The large  number of children in attendance underscored the fact that this community does  indeed need a safe and stimulating playground.

The event took place on a  lovely 1.6 hectare piece of land on the edge of Ubud. With several  buildings and a swimming pool already in place, it would make a perfect site for the proposed project.  Negotiations are now underway with the owners  who are interested in entering a contract with us.  A lengthy search for  government or donated land for the project has not been successful, and we  must enter a commercial contract.  Investors are now invited to join us as we embark on Phase II of this exciting  project. We have raised Rp 88,000,000 to put towards the playground.  Ibu Asri Kerthyasa and Ibu Robin Lim have offered to be project monitors.  Pak Frank Wilson will  provide accounting support.

Dozens of parents, artists and businesses contributed to the success of  Earth Day 2008.

Heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers who made this  event possible:

Ubud Art Centre News Update

October - November 2008 News

October has been an exciting month for the Playground Project, we have made some progress over the last few months and now we would like to share the good news.

We would like to announce that we now have agreed on a location for the Playground and Arts Center and we will be giving a deposit for this land in just a few days.

The Playground will be placed on a ideal piece of land. This place is simply beautiful, situated in the middle of rice field terrace views, just on the outskirts of town. The location is a piece of dry land which is a good thing as we will not be taking productive rice fields from the farmers.

Our future location is in Desa Kubu just opposite from the Pelangi International School and next door to the Bumi Sehat Youth Center. This is very exciting as we will be able to link up with these other great organizations. Here we can benefit from each other and again bring strength in creating a community centre.

With the excitement and enthusiasm for the land agreement a group of volunteers went out to The Readers & Writers Festival held in Ubud this October to do a little fund raising. We had lot’s of fun and got some great feed back from visitors and locals which all showed great support for our project.

At the event we sold Earth Day Every Day T-shits and some hand crafted puzzles and gave out vouchers for a 45 min. spa package for two from with any purchase or donation. Spa vouchers where donated by Taksu Spa and greatly appreciated. All in all we raised Rp 4,825.000 over that few days event.

We have now entered STAGE 2 of raising funds for the project, which is the raising of funds for the first years deposit for the land. We are now also presenting our business plan to potential investors.

We have an updated version of the projects Business Plan available if any one would like an emailed copy of that please email us: info@baliartscenter.com, we will be happy to send you one of these.

Also, we would like to announce that we will be changing our website and that we will start to use the site as a venue for local businesses to advertise on our site. The proceeds of the sale of these links will go toward the land & arts center funding. For more info about that contact us at: info@baliartscenter.com
